On Earth, there is a persistent myth on the existence of demons.
Outside of Earth, Demons (their true name was lost along with the
language) were a magic species of aliens that lived hundreds of thousands of years ago.
Their partly humanoid form had a feature unique amongst all known alien
species- large horns made of indestructible mineral. These horns gave them their
powers of shapeshifting and element control, and was the reason why they were such
formidable fighters and conquerors during their brief territory reign.
Demon culture was a contradiction- both heavily spiritual and battle-obsessed. They were very connected to nature and the universe, had many rituals and practices to reflect this, but
they also greatly valued the life of a warrior and fighting to survive.
The race had a promising future until they disappeared completely, wiped out by some unknown
and terrible force.
To this day no living species has discovered the reason. All that remains of them are their ruins, their planet, and the peculiar symbols they etched in stone.
